Dear Friends,
How are you? Greetings from cloudy, rainy Minnesota. I hope you have had a great week — full of meaningful work, fun, laughter, good food, periods of solitude, and plenty of time for creativity. For me, the week went super fast. It was full of day job projects, sick kids at home, and very little creative time. On a good note, I was fueled by another week of vegetarian eating …..pretty surprised I have made this long;).
Thankfully, the week ahead will be full of photography, art, and writing including 2 days off from the day job. I am going to be a “more than 20% creative” for the week. I am excited to attend and participate in Call Me Artist next weekend (the giveaway winner is announced below). I am also looking forward to participating in a writing workshop taught by The OpEd Project. The workshop was given to me by the organizers of the leadership training program I completed a few years ago. Here is the description of the “Write to Change the World” intensive that I will doing on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon. It should be a great learning experience packed with information to push my writing skills and pediatric advocacy efforts to the next level. All goes well, I will share the OpEd I write during the intensive with you during an upcoming newsletter.
Best wishes for a great week ahead. Please enjoy Issue #17 of A Twenty Percent Creative.
Warm regards, Jeff
FROM MY PHONE’S CAMERA
I took this photo earlier this week from the driver’s seat of my car while sitting in standstill traffic on the highway in Minneapolis. This photo documents the Minnesota Nurses Association (MNA) strike. On Thursday September 15th, 15,000 nurses returned to work after a historic 3-day strike, believed by the MNA to be the largest private sector nurses’ strike in United States history.
GIVEAWAY
Congratulations to Adriana Prato, the winner of the complementary full access ticket to next weekend’s Call Me Artist Photography Retreat. Thanks to all of you who entered the giveaway. I wish I had more tickets to share. I do have ideas for additional giveaways in the future. Please stay tuned!
IN MY HEADPHONES
I am enjoying the new Street Life podcast hosted by Mark Davidson (@markjdavidson) and John St (@giant_evertonian), two street photographers based in Australia. This week I listened to the episode with Knox Bertie. I have been following Knox on Instagram @knoxbertie for a long time and enjoy his visually intriguing, atmospheric style. It was great to hear the story behind his photographs.
