Dear Friends,
I am going with a brief intro this Sunday. I have spent the whole week in front of the computer — for work, the Op-ed writing intensive, the Call Me Artist online photography retreat, etc. It is absolutely beautiful here in Minneapolis today - sunny mid 60s F, and breezy. I am going to make a cup of tea and sit outside for an hour with a book before my next computer based activity starts. Please enjoy Issue #18 of A Twenty Percent Creative.
…. and if you haven’t done so already, please share the newsletter:
Warm regards and have a great week! See you next Sunday!
Jeff
FROM MY PHONE’S CAMERA
This week I am sharing a series of photographs I took on Friday night during a rainy high school [American] football game. All of these photographs were taken on my iPhone SE using noir mode.
OP-ED ARTICLES I READ THIS WEEK
As I participated in the Op-Ed writing intensive this week that I discussed last newsletter, I found myself reading published Op-Eds written by others to get inspiration and to understand the mechanics of the articles. Here are a few Op-Eds that I read this week. My Op-Ed is coming together very slowly. I have about a month to get it done if I want the help of a journalist-mentor that is provided to me as part of the intensive. Outcome aside, I learned a ton this week that will influence my professional writing going forward. It was a fantastic workshop with a tremendously diverse, interesting group of people.
Why women should coach boys’ sports - Abby Braiman
Op/ed - Hidden in Plain Sight: Disclosing my disability — Thomas Conway
When Quiet Quitting Is Worse Than the Real Thing — Anthony C. Klotz and Mark C. Bolino
PRODUCTIVITY TIP
It can be extremely helpful to “pause before committing to a new task, project, or responsibility.” A pause can be seconds, minutes, hours, or even days. A pause is not a definitive no. A pause is not a definitive yes. A pause gives time to weigh priorities, opportunity costs, and realistic time available. A pause is a chance to make a decision on one’s own timeline free of social pressures.
VIDEOS I WATCHED THIS WEEK
Will facial recognition affect street photography? — Jamie Windsor
Learning photography from Gregory Crewdson — T. Hopper on Youtube
