Hello Friends,
I hope this message finds you doing well. We are having a sunny, “warmer” March Sunday here in the Twin Cities. It is one of those days to raise the blinds throughout the house and open the windows to let in some fresh air. These days always push my mood in a positive direction and give me hope that consistent, warm, spring days will be here soon. I hope to get outside for a bit today to observe some light and shadows, make some vitamin D, and ideally take a few photos.
I am happy to share Issue #6 of A Twenty Percent Creative with you today. Please enjoy and best wishes for a creative week to come.
Cheers, Jeff
Tuesday, February 22, 2022 was a snowy day in the Twin Cities. The snow began to fall shortly after the morning rush hour and continued through most of the afternoon. When I arrived on the campus of the University of Minnesota around 11 A.M., the snow and wind were pretty intense causing challenging road conditions and minimal visibility. As a driver, I hoped the conditions would improve quickly. The photographer in me felt differently.
I started to brainstorm ways to rearrange or postpone the scheduled events later in the day. I couldn’t pass up the chance to hit the streets with my camera. Usually, I am stuck at home or in my clinic office on blustery snow days. On this day, I was thrilled to be on the university campus, a great location to document the snowstorm and the hustle of professors, college students, and employees navigating their way from place to place across the snowy grounds.
After attending the meetings that brought me to campus, I bundled up in four layers of clothes, prepared my Fujifilm XT3 and 56mm f/1.2 lens for the elements, and set out on campus to take full advantage of the conditions. It was so much fun and a memorable way to spend 2/22/22.
Here are a series of photographs I made to document this snow day.
Bastiaan Woudt
I first learned of Bastiaan Woudt, an Amsterdam-based fine art photographer, via this Ted Forbes Youtube video in July 2018. Since that time, I have been following Bastiaan on Instagram @bastiaanwoudt and am consistently inspired by his beautiful, geometric, and elegant style. Bastiaan masterfully blends monochrome with minimalism in his portraiture and landscape photography. Please do check out Bastiaan’s website and Youtube channel where his photography and life as a fine art photographer and business owner are showcased.
This week, I found these resources to be interesting, informative, and/or instructive.
